Arts in Schools Benefit Festival - Scarecrow Contest
Join in the fun as The Arts Council and McDonald's invite you to enter a scarecrow building contest at the Arts in Schools Benefit Festival. Gather a group of family members, friends, co-workers or students and let your creativity run wild.
Be sure to read through the important rules and regulations detailed below, download a registration form, and enter by September 7.
OFFICIAL RULES & REGULATIONS:
• Entry fee $25.00 per scarecrow or two for $40.00. Checks made payable to The Arts Council or pay online. Each entry will be furnished a hay bale to serve as a base for the scarecrow at your designated display area.
• Complete and return entry form to The Arts Council, Inc. (331 Spring Street, SW. Gainesville, GA 30501) by Friday, September 7, 2012. Your payment, a written description of your entry, and title must accompany your entry form. The Arts Council, Inc. reserves the right to refuse a scarecrow entry which it feels may be offensive to the general public. No advertising, political or religious statements will be allowed.
• Scarecrows should NOT exceed four feet in width or depth; however, there are no restrictions on height. Scarecrows must be weather resistant and sturdy in order to qualify for displaying and judging. Consider the wind and rain when choosing and securing materials to it. NO PERISHABLE GOODS may be used in the construction of your scarecrow (i.e. real pumpkins, squash, etc.). Electricity will not be provided. Only solar or wind power for moving parts, that do not pose a risk, may be used.
• Place a weather-proof sign on your scarecrow’s base with the name of family/school/business and title.
• The Arts Council, Inc. is NOT RESPONSIBLE for security of the scarecrows on display.
• Each scarecrow must be brought to The Arts Council Smithgall Arts Center (331 Spring Street, SW. Gainesville, GA 30501) on Wednesday, September 12, 2012 between the hours of 9am - 5pm.
• Entrants should visit their scarecrows at The Arts Council Smithgall Arts Center, during business hours (M thru F 9am - 5pm) for periodic check-ups to make any necessary repairs. The Arts Council, Inc. reserves the right to remove any scarecrows that do not hold up to the weather.
• Winners will selected by celebrity judges and people’s choice and will be announced on Sat., Sept. 15, 2012 at 5:00pm. Winners will be awarded in each category and one Best in Show.
• Scarecrows must be picked up on Wednesday, September 26, 2012 between the hours of 9am-5pm. Scarecrows that are not claimed nor arranged an alternative pick-up will become the property of The Arts Council, Inc.
• The Arts Council, Inc. reserves the right to photograph entries for any promotional purposes. Photographs become the property of The Arts Council, Inc.
