Dallas
Brass
Thursday, April 3, 2008
8PM
Georgia
Mountains Center - Arena
The 2008 Arts Council Pearce Series will
kickoff with a performance by the Dallas Brass. Since its founding in
1983 by Michael Levine, the Dallas Brass has become one of America's
foremost musical ensembles. The group has established a unique blend of
traditional brass instruments with a full complement of drums and
percussion, which creates a performing entity of extraordinary range and
musical challenges. The Dallas Brass repertoire includes classical
masterpieces, Dixieland, swing, Broadway, Hollywood and patriotic music.
According to Mr. Levine, "a Dallas Brass concert is intended for the
entire family. Our ideal audience has a range in ages from 5 to 95. Our
goal is to entertain and enrich by playing great music, while showing
our audience how much we enjoy what we do."
In addition to their solo engagements, the Dallas Brass appears with
symphony orchestras nationwide. Symphonic credits include the Cincinnati
Pops conducted by Erich Kunzel, New York Pops conducted by Skitch
Henderson, and the Philly Pops conducted by Peter Nero. The Dallas Brass
has performed at Carnegie Hall, the John F. Kennedy Center in
Washington, DC, and has toured overseas to Europe and the Far East. They
have shared the stage with the late Bob Hope, have performed for
Presidents Gerald Ford and George H. W. Bush, have appeared on the CBS
"Early Show," and their music has been used numerous times on the
television show, "The Young & The Restless."
The ensemble has released six recordings: Debut, Dallas Brass II, A
Merry Christmas with Brass, Windborne, Nutcracker and American Musical
Journey. The Dallas Brass has a strong dedication to working with young
musicians, frequently going into the public schools to present clinics
and workshops for students of all ages.
The Dallas Brass is composed of: Michael Levine (Director, Trombone);
Brian Neal (Trumpet); D.J. Barraclough (Trumpet); Chris Castellanos
(Horn); Nat McIntosh (Tuba), and Jeff Handel (Drums & Percussion).
The Dallas Brass concert will be presented in the Georgia Mountains
Center Arena beginning at 8pm on Thursday, April 3rd. Tickets for Dallas
Brass are $30 for adults and $25 for students. Tickets may also be
purchased through each high school and middle school band booster clubs

The
Arts Council
Smithgall Arts Center
An annual tradition
since 1975, The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra marks its 33rd anniversary
performance for patrons in Gainesville, Hall County, and northeast
Georgia on Friday, July 20th. The ASO will be outdoors at The Arts
Council Smithgall Arts Center and this performance will also be included
in the 2007
Smithgall Arts Center Summer
MusicFest.
Regarded as one of the most creative and innovative orchestras in North
America, the 95-member Atlanta Symphony Orchestra is complemented by the
acclaimed Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Chorus and the widely recognized
Atlanta Symphony Youth Orchestra. Serving as the cornerstone for
musical performance and training in an area extending far beyond our
city's borders, the ASO reaches nearly half a million people through its
various concert series and its diverse initiatives in music education
and outreach. The orchestra performs more than 200 concerts each year,
with its main subscription series augmented by pops series, family
concerts, and a full summer schedule including classical, pops, and
parks concerts. Its educational concerts for young people are
consistently sold out and, along with outreach initiatives in schools
and community centers, serve more than 50,000 youngsters annually.
Music Director since 2001, Maestro Robert Spano has led an innovative
period for the ASO that has included commissions for video and animated
installations in the concert hall as well as video interviews with
living composers and a much greater emphasis on contemporary repertoire.
Recordings by the ASO have drawn international praise, winning an Audio
Excellence Award, Gramophone and Ovation Magazine Awards, and 21 Grammy
Awards, including three last year. The ASO records for Telarc, with
additional releases available on the Argo, New World, Nonesuch, Sony
Classical, and Vox labels |
