"The Wonderful World of Puppets" By Jim Gamble

In the only venue outside of the Atlanta Metropolitan area for the Center for Puppetry Arts summer program "Puppets Take Atlanta", The Arts Council will present Jim Gamble's "The Wonderful World of Puppets" at its newest facility, the former Methodist Church on Green Street. "The Wonderful World of Puppets" is a lively marionette variety show for all ages. The show features many favorite puppet characters that come to life in the expert hands of Gamble. Algernon the Clown files on his trapeze, Percy the Penguin perfects his balancing act, Rollo the Roller-Skater performing amazing acts of motion and Yankee Doodle dances himself apart. Gamble is well known in California and across the nation for his entertaining productions and beautifully crafted marionettes. In 1999, Gamble's "Hansel and Gretel" was staged at the University of Hawaii's Kennedy Theater for over 10,000 schoolchildren and families in Honolulu and Maui. And as a member of a Red Cross humanitarian team, he and his marionettes performed for thousands of refugee families in hurricane-ravaged Honduras. Admission for "The Wonderful World of Puppets is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $6 for children. Group rates are also available for these programs please call for more information. Performances are at 10AM on Friday and Saturday with a 7:30PM evening performance on Friday. In addition to the above performances the Arts Council will also present an exhibition of Gamble's marionettes entitled "The World of a String: Marionettes from Jim Gamble's Puppet Productions. The exhibit will open on June 10th and run through July 5th. Marionettes included in the exhibition are from Gamble's Santa's Workshop, Peter Cottontail, Witch's Brew and more create a holiday extravaganza.
